From the Center of San Dimas to All Points of the Compass: Feeding Military Families
On August 23, 2025, San Dimas once again proved itself a hub of service and generosity. From this city—famously called the “center of the universe” by Bill and Ted—volunteers and donors launched a food drive that sent relief to military families in every direction of the compass.
East, West, North, and South
From the heart of San Dimas, food and supplies radiated outward to four military installations:
- East to Twentynine Palms: A full 53-foot container with 23 pallets—6 tons of food and supplies—traveled 121 miles into the desert, supporting Marines and their families.
- North to Fort Irwin: ½ ton of supplies made the 124-mile journey to soldiers of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment.
- West to Los Angeles Air Force Base: ¼ ton of essential items crossed 47 miles into the city, including baby supplies for Air Force families.
- South to Camp Pendleton: ¾ ton of food was delivered 79 miles to Marines serving on the coast.
In total, the drive produced 7 tons of food and supplies plus more than $5,000 in cash donations—a lifeline for families facing food insecurity.
Volunteers and Donors Leading the Way
The drive was powered by nearly 600 volunteer hours—the equivalent of 14 full-time work weeks. Seven individuals met the Secretary’s Challenge by donating their weight in food, while 30 Rotarians, 20 community volunteers, and 17 delivery crew members ensured every box reached its destination. With 40 donation boxes across local businesses, a 25-person kickoff event, and the support of donors including Masonic lodges, Kiwanis, COSTCO, the Marine Corps League, and local clubs, the entire community pulled together.
A Statement of Service
This food drive was more than a logistical achievement—it was a symbolic act of unity. Just as the compass points outward from San Dimas, so too did the commitment of this community extend to every corner of Southern California where service members and their families live.
Looking Ahead
The work continues. Our next food drive is scheduled for March 14, 2026, and every can, box, and volunteer hand will again make a difference. In the meantime, we invite you to join us at two important upcoming events:
- Uniform Toss: A Cornhole Challenge for Community & Corps – September 13, 2025, at La Verne Brewing Company. More Information: https://www.facebook.com/events/969567715201370

Together, these efforts form a clear message: from San Dimas, the center of the compass, we will not let military families go hungry.
